I got the Canon XH A1 in the end. Simply because it came up at the right time for the right price second-hand for me. There was no EX1 at the time at a similar price. I'm having trouble getting the XHA1 to connect to FCP, however. And out there in interweb land, it seems others do too. But I shouldn't be using it as a deck anyway, if it's my main camera. So I need to get a wee Canon HDV to use as a deck.
It seems that I've nearly finished the edit on the short film "The Death of James Connolly". It's been a long process since I was initially approached about this job last summer, to finally get to a point where I obtained all the footage in march and then, as my schedule dictated, began the edit in the first week of April. Hopefully it will be coming to a festival screen near you soon...
