Further adventures in photography

After an unbelievably busy summer in work, where all cliches along the lines of baptism of fire applied to me, I surfaced on the other side of it and got back to having a life. At the moment, that means planning my wedding, working on two freelance film projects and further developing my own work.

I did some photography at the beginning of the summer and started work on a video art piece that have yet to see the light of day. Experiments in lomography with my medium format Holga are very exciting for me. The beauty of analogue. There are two film projects I'm involved in as camera and editor. One is almost finished shooting, a short film, but due to various issues which are endemic to amateur productions, I don't know if it will ever get finished. I'm not going to say any more on it, for now. The other is a no-budget feature in pre-production with a crew with no experience and a cast of amateur theatre actors. I have ultimate faith in the enthusiasm of all the parties and in the skill and dedication of the actors, but until a final script is seen, it remains to be seen whether this project will ever be realised.

And then there's the small matter of getting married to fit in around all this. That is pretty soon, 31st October to be precise, and arrangements are only being finalised now. Final invites being sent, final bookings being made, dress finalised for all parties. Our wedding is being recorded in super 8! I have to purchase stock for that. Cake, flowers, photographer, all to be 100% finalised. Yeah. Living on the edge. Lastminuteweddings.com is what I'm calling myself at the moment.

I have to say, for a dress purchased for €10 in a charity shop, the main dress of the day, my wedding dress, is looking good. I had a fitting last weekend. With a good dressmaker, anything is possible, I guess. Spending €1000+ on a dress, which seems to be the norm in bridal boutiques, was not an option for me - but looking pretty was, naturally, a priority! So there you have it, ladies. Whenever you see a wedding dress for a good price, buy it, stash it in your attic, and wait!
