Third weekend - Production with Conor Barry

This was such an interesting module. I really enjoyed it and again learned lots of really practical things about how exactly a film project gets off the ground (note to self!!!) and all the work that the producer person has to do. In fact they are one of the first people on board after the writer/creator of the idea to be done. Conor was so nice and so encouraging! He too was very generous with his experience. He focussed a bit on how to get your film out here and he's absolutely right. That's the important part. No point in making it if it sits at home on your shelf (are you listening, jacqueline???). He also encouraged us to apply for funding, to get experience in the industry and gave useful advise on how to apply for funding and what happens if you are shortlisted or if you get it. Such honest and frank advice. Sugar-coated.

We also picked our crew jobs. I can see that they are trying to accomodate everyone on this course and be really 'fair'. Though, unfortuantely, that is not the way of the real world, that's for sure. Sigh. But, this is merely an academic exercise.

Scriptwriting was a good discipline. I like the way the idea developed when I applied myself to think about it and when I had a deadline to make me focus! To be brutal, this is an amateur academic exercise and I didn't not want my script tobe chosen for tis. I nned not have worried. The script that was chosen for us to make was the simplest scrip, logistically. The reason I put that idea in in the first place was to get some feedback on it from the course tutors. I'm sorry there wasn't more feedback at the end though especially from the "big 6" who read the script. The feedback that I did get was good though.
